Intelligence and discovery in an information society: An essay in memory of Derek de Solla Price

A brief discussion is offered of some implications of the legacy of Derek de Solla Price, Avalon professor of Yale University. An influential figure in the information society, he was also kindly encouraging to young scholars. Derek de Solla Price is remembered as a scientist, a historian, a decipherer of ancient machines, and energetic scholar, a great pioneer, and the greatest intellectual leader of information science. Although a decade has passed since he has become a part of history, his strong influence is still felt in today's information society.
